The Crouching Man
by I.Johal on March 9, 2012 in Construction, Engineering, GAGA
Although “The Crouching Man” may have been sitting just off the coast of Lelystad for a while now, the story of his creation continues to fascinate. Not only the complexity of his gestation, fabrication, protection via galvanizing but also the not-so-simple task of construction/erection. Watch to see how he was put together.

GAGAs 2012 – Open for entries!
by Nicky on December 8, 2011 in GAGA
It doesn’t seem five minutes since we were announcing the winners of the 2011 Galvanizing Awards, and here we are again, launching next year’s event. We’ve been recognising the use of galvanized steel in our annual awards since 1994 and the competition continues to grow year-on-year. New for 2012 is the International category for UK-based companies who have a project overseas. With five categories in which to enter, we are able to celebrate small works of art right through to large-scale, landscape-changing developments. A share of the £3,000 prize fund, an engraved trophy and a galvanized watering could all be [...]
Our commitment to the environment
by I.Johal on October 28, 2011 in Sustainability
As part of our sustainability initiative, Galvanizers Association is committed to reducing our own CO2 footprint. A major contribution to this is the development of an online interactive version of our CPD presentation. This enables us to deliver the same high quality “face to face” presentations using the internet rather than the traditional modes of transport – air, car and train. A total saving of 3,745kg of CO2 was made by providing our CPDs online in 2010. In real terms, this can be likened to saving 3.75 trees, based on an average of one broad leaf tree absorbing in the region [...]

Zinc Saves Kids
by I.Johal on October 12, 2011 in UNESCO
“Zinc Saves Kids” is an initiative of the International Zinc Association (IZA) to improve the survival, growth and development of undernourished children by funding UNICEF-supported zinc programs around the world. IZA has committed to raise three million US$ over a three-year period from the global zinc community. The campaign will involve IZA member companies, zinc industry customer groups, suppliers and employees. The funds will be used to support zinc supplementation programs for children under the age of five who are most impacted by micronutrient deficiencies. 450,000 children under the age of five die annually due to zinc deficiency, and many [...]
